MULLER, WERNER ADVISOR: THE PHOENIX PROGRAM IN V 70 COLOR AND BLACK & 6" X 9", 352 PGS.
From his arrival in war-torn Vietnam in 1968 to his reluctant departure twenty-five months later, John Cook served as an advisor in the district of Di An and took part in the systematic operations of the Phoenix Program to destroy the Infrastructure, the political organization of the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces. The Advisor is the story of those twenty-five months of fighting an laughing and hoping, and of the people who shared them - Major Chau, a man who so tremendously symbolized dedication to the destruction of the Infrastructure that the Viet Cong made several attempts on his life; Lietenant Hau, Cook's Vietnamese counterpart and close friend; Colonel Anderson and Major Allen, two of Di An's senior advisors; and other American and Vietnamese colleagues who - fighting a war at its "rice roots," rather than viewing it through myriad news analyses and peace demonstration demands - found it impossible to remain objective about such a conflict. More than the story of bombings, sweep operations, enemy confrontations, and hamlet pillages, The Advisor tells how one man came to see the Vietnam War as his war, how he bacame involved in the district villagers' struggle for their freedom from terrorism, and how he learned the true costs of that freedom.

MULLER, WERNER PALACE GATES 32 PAGES OF PHOTOGRA 6" X 9", 240 PGS.
January 31, 1968. A cold, dense fog had settled over the city of Hue, South Vietnam. Guards posted at key points around the lightly defended American military advisors' compound stared out into blackness. Nothing could be seen or heard until the blinding flash and shocking concussion of an exploding rocket tore through the fog. A hail of rocket and mortar shells was followed by a ground attack. It was soon obvious to the heterogeneous group (Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force personnel) inside the compound that a large group of people outside the compound wanted to kill them. The Tet battle for Hue was on. The Americans battled for their lives.Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Richard Brown had two jobs: leading Forward Air Controllers responsible for the area between the demilitarized zone (DMZ) and DaNang, plus advising General Truong, First ARVN Division Commander, on Air Force support. He lived in the Hue MACV compound and remained in the city during the first seventeen days of the battle. The author began his military career during World War II as a fighter pilot in the Fourteenth Air Force, China, under the command of General Claire Chennault. Called back to active duty during the Korean War, he remained in military service until the end of his duty tour in Vietnam. Curious as to how communism could "benefit" common man, he returned to China in 1980 and Vietnam in 1988.

MURPHY, GRAHAM FOUNDERS OF THE NATIONAL TRUST: 23 B&W 5 1/2 " X 8 1/2", 16
Graham Murphy explores the origins of the National Trust through the lives of its three founders - Robert Hunter, Octavia Hill and Hardwicke Rawnsley - and provides a fascinating documentary of the nineteenth-century open space movement.

All three were far-sighted individuals with vigorous campaigning track records. Robert Hunter was a London lawyer who conducted several high-profile court battles on behalf of the Corporation of London and the Commons Preservation Society to save open spaces like Epping Forest, Wimbledon Common and Hampstead Heath from development, protecting Londoners' ancient common rights of access. Octavia Hill is remembered for transforming ramshackle properties into well-ordered tenements for working class families. Her recognition of the benefits of access to open spaces in which workers could relax and enjoy nature led to the creation of numerous public gardens across London. Hardwicke Rawnsley's campaigning credentials were won when he joined the battle to preserve the unspoilt Cumbrian Lake District from a series of railway routes proposed by quarry owners.

Here Graham Murphy charts the careers of the National Trust's first chairman, chief fundraiser and secretary, detailing the complex battles which ultimately drew them together to form what is now the largest voluntary organisation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Rev. Graham Murphy is a minister in the Unitarian Church in Liverpool. He writes for journals and local radio, and has also published a biography of the abolitionist William Roscoe.

MYHRA, DAVID THE HORTEN BROTHERS AND THEIR ALL-WING A OVER 730 BLACK & WHI 9" X 12", 320 PGS.
The Horten Brothers and Their All-Wing Aircraft is the heretofore untold true story of Reimar, Wolfram, and Walter Hortens remarkable aeronautical achievements with the all-wing planform between 1933 and 1945 as told to aviation biographer David Myhra. Talking daily with Reimar Horten at his ranch at the foothills of the Andes Mountains in Argentina for two months, and also with Walter in Baden Baden, Germany, the two brothers described in detail their struggles in Nazi controlled Germany to perfect the all-wing planform. Astounding as their real-life story is of itself, the Horten brothers gave David Myhra hundreds of photographs to illustrate this new volume. In this remarkable book David Myhra tells the true story of the Horten brothers and their all-wing aircraft through the use of over 735 photos and three-view line drawings of their entire all-wing line. Most of these photos and drawngs have not been available to the public until now. Even more astonishing, the Hortens, ridiculed in the mid-1930s for wasting their genius on silly all-wing aircraft, would be the only ones called on by Hermann Gring in December 1944 to build an all-wing Amerika atomic bomber and save Deutschland from certain and final destruction by the Allies through a negotiated peace settlement. The Horten Ho 18 Amerika Bomber was not meant to be. But it might have been if the war had not ended in May 1945 but, say, May 1946. This, then, is the fascinating true story of those naive boy-designers from Bonn, the Horten brothers and their silly all-wing airplanes.

MYHRA, DAVID SECRET AIRCRAFT DESIGNS OF THE THIRD OVER 1000 BLACK & WH 9" X 12", 352 PGS.
In Secret Aircraft Designs of the Third Reich aircraft biographer David Myhra gives the reader much more than pictures of proposed German aircraft projects, although this work is richly illustrated by state-of-the-art digital images by Mario Merino. The total number of German projects is in excess of 400. Blohm und Voss tops the list with over 200 project designs. The reader is introduced to the men behind these proposed aircraft. One will discover Wolderman Voights frustration with his Me P.1101 and why it simply would not jell. The reader will learn why Dr. Gthert of Gotha lobbied the RLM to take his Go P.60 designs and scrap the Horten Ho 229. We see why critics of design genius Alexander Lippisch said that he was a man who had a new design almost every day but fails to put most of them into the air. Myhra describes the shameful handling of Hugo Junkers, the father of German aviation, by the Gestapo. It was Junkers who said that ideas for advanced aircraft projects were about as cheap as blueberries. To an idea must be added materials, resources, and time. And time in all the secret projects was short, very short. Although over 400 aircraft projects were on the drawing board when the war in Europe ended in May 1945, only a handful were in the prototype stage. This outstanding book also offers a superb collection of photographs of scale models from contributors throughout the world, and digital images by Mario Merino and Andreas Ott that offer a one-of-a-kind look at secret German designs.

Post-war the Ta 183 became the mother of the Soviet MiG-15 and the Argentine IAe 33 Pulqui II which Kurt Tank built for President Juan Per n. MYHRA, DAVID MESSERSCHMITT P.1101: AN ILLUSTRAT OVER 100 BLACK & WHI 11" X 8 1/2", 64 PGS
Powered by a single HeS 001A turbojet engine, Woldemer Voigt, who had artfully crafted the Me 262, ran out of time before he could make the 1101s design jell as he struggled to produce the worlds first variable wing sweep, ultra light weight interceptor, and armed with Germanys state-of-the art wing-mounted air-to-air guided missiles. Post-war, Bell Aircraft sought to carry on Voigts planning and resolved to make the complicated mathematics of light weight, variable wing sweep and wing-mounted weapons come together in a single aircraft design. The result was the Bell X-5, and it too, was disappointing. This photographic history of the Me P.1101 by David Myhra features mostly previously unpublished photos, three-view line drawings, and stunningly realistic photos of a 1101 scale model.

Into the arms of the angels went pilots of the Me 163s, however the Alexander Lippisch-designed machine wasnt quite finished even though it went into serial production. The RLM called upon Heinrich Hertel of Junkers Flugzeugbau to give the aging 163 a complete make over and a make up for all the initial items it lacked that is a cruising HWK 509 bi-fuel liquid rocket engine with a dual combustion chamber, tricycle landing gear, C and T-Stoff fuel tanks in the wings to provide longer flight duration, and so on. Although Hertels machine was not flight tested under power prior to wars end the new and improved version now known as the Me 263 was test flown post war in the USSR. David Myhra has assembled previously unpublished photos, state-of-the art digital images, and photos of a 263 scale model to make this book on the 263 a one of a kind photographic reference.
