EDINGTON, SARAH VEGETARIAN RECIPES: B&W THROUGHOUT 7 1/2 " X 10", 0 PGS
It is a fact that great eaters of meat are in general more cruel and ferocious than other men; this observation holds good in all places and at all times; the barbarism of the English is well known. This was Jean-Jacques Rousseau's opinion of the benefits of a vegetarian diet. These days The National Trust is providing more and more vegetarian dishes to suit growing demand from the swarms of 'barbarians' who visit National Trust properties every year! Whether you are choosing to eat vegetarian dishes as a permanent diet or as part of a healthier lifestyle, Vegetarian Recipes is packed with ideas to tempt the most committed carnivore. Sample Spiced Bean Pottage, a Tudor favourite from Oxburgh Hall, the sophisticated and luxurious Pinenut and Spinach Jalousie from Charlecote Park, or Carrot Halwa, an exotic dessert from Claremont Landscape Gardens inspired by Clive of India who used to live there. To keep the cook entertained there are details of our ancestors attitudes towards health and food and quotations from all manner of notable vegetarians, from the Romantic Percy Bysshe Shelley, to the irascible George Bernard Shaw. Enjoy the extravagant hospitality of the Earls of Egremont at Petworth House in Sussex, and yet spare a thought for the unfortunate inhabitants of the Thurgaton Hundred Incorporated Workhouse at Southwell in Nottinghamshire. Sarah Edington was for many years a professional cook, running her own catering business, with the National Trust and the Victoria & Albert Museum among her customers. She now specialises in tours of historic kitchens. |

EMERING, EDWARD J. WEAPONS AND FIELD GEAR OF THE NORTH VI OVER 400 COLOR AND B 8 1/2" X 11", 160 PG
Field gear and inert weapons and ordnance have long been popular items with militaria collectors. The Vietnam War by its very nature offers an incredible range and variety of these items for the interested collector. The North Vietnamese and their puppet troops of the National Liberation Front (Viet Cong or VC) relied primarily on communist allies (Russia, China, North Korea, Cuba and various Eastern Bloc countries of the era) for their weapons and field gear. For this reason, Vietnam represents a microcosm of gear from all of this century's wars, dating back to World War I, as well as a wide range of improvised weapons and equipment. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the variety of hand grenades used by the enemy, including Russian, Chinese, North Korean, Eastern European, French, Japanese and even modified, captured U.S. grenades. Although impossible to completely catalog the extreme variety of weapons and field gear used by the PAVN and VC, author Edward Emering has made a determined effort to present a wide overview of the weapons and field gear used from the late-1950s through the modern era. He has been aided in his goal by obtaining access to the world class collection of the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum, located in Chicago, Illinois and by material from a number of extensive private collections. This book will help both the serious collector as well as those individuals interested in acquiring only a token piece of history to avoid potentially costly mistakes. A value guide is included. EMERING, EDWARD J. ORDERS, DECORATIONS AND BADGES OF THE SO 190 COLOR AND BLACK 8 1/2" X 11", 96 PGS
The Orders and Decorations of the "enemy" during the Vietnam War have remained shrouded in mystery for many years. References to them are scarce and interrogations of captives during the war often led to the proliferation of misinformation concerning them. To confuse the situation even more, these awards were bestowed by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV), known then as the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV), and the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF), and a myriad of political and local organizations. Covered ar those Orders and Decorations now considered official by the SRV, as well as many of the obsolete awards bestowed by the DRV and the NLF. It also discusses many of the commemorative, political and local awards. Includes value guide. Price: $24.95 |

EMERING, EDWARD J. U.S. NAVY AND MARINE CORPS CAMPAIG OVER 180 COLOR AND B 8 1/2" X 11", 88 PGS
The campaign and commemorative medals of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps frame an interesting evolution in our countrys military development and willingness to use this power on a worldwide basis. It traces their roots from our own Civil War to assuming the stature of the worlds super power. This work provides an in depth overview of not only the history and development of each campaign medal, but also the historical significance of the events surrounding the establishment of each medal. Informative and insightful glimpses of some of the main characters in this history, like Dewey, Sampson. DeLong, Butler, Hanneken, Peary and Byrd are threaded through this work. The book traces the events and their corresponding medals through our current involvement in the Bosnia peacekeeping mission. The book also covers, in great detail, several of the more important commemorative medals which were often struck on a limited basis to account for the lack of appropriate official federal awards. In many cases, these commemorative medals reflect exacting craftsmanship and unusual design features when compared to the campaign medals. All medals are exquisitely photographed in color with the exception of a few of the rare commemorative medals, which are reproduced in black and white. The work also covers a number of interesting foreign awards which have accompanied the award of a number of U.S. campaign medals. This work, which is well organized and easy to read, proves to be an interesting and informative reference work for the collector of these Navy and Marine Corps medals. A value guide is included. Ed Emering is also the author of Orders, Decorations and Badges of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (available from Schiffer Publishing Ltd.). Price: $19.95 |

ENGELMANN, JOACHIM GERMAN ARTILLERY IN WORLD WAR II 1939-19 OVER 400 BLACK & WHI 7" X 10", 176 PGS.
Never before in German military history did the German Artillery possess such variety and magnitude as in the World War II era. From North Cape to Tobruk, Biscay to Lapland, Den Helder to the Caucasus, there were more than 1000 light and about 340 heavy artillery units, as well as the light and heavy field howitzer units, assault gun units, brigades and batteries, observation units, railroad batteries, mountain artillery units, light gun units and launcher regiments. The German Artillery included 655,000 men in 1943, or 22 percent of all the soldiers who went into action. Thirty-nine German gun tipes and forty captured gun types from ten different European countries were utilized by these units. The German Artillery took on special significance in the spring of 1943 when the fighting strength of the exhausted infantry began to decrease and armored vehicles became less and less effective in their battle against overwhelming Soviet power. During this period, the Artillery again and again provided the backbone of the German resistance and defense. This volume of photographs presents a look into the operations, action and everyday life of the German artillery - a frequently over-looked aspect of Wehrmacht history. Price: $24.95 |
