The ORIGINAL CARPENTER'S LEDGER maintained by Gideon H. Tripp of Harwich, Massachusetts between the years 1850 and 1857. Tripp, who was listed as a "House Carpenter" in the U.S. Census for 1870, documented his transactions during this period in this substantial leather bound ledger with marbled boards of 218 pages. The book is filled with accounts conducted with individuals from the coast of Massachusetts. The book includes 172 pages in length, among the entries a accounts for building houses, many coffins, table legs, finishing parlor, building an addition, the purchase of various kinds of wood, and much, much more. Accounts with individuals, including Eldridge P. Nickerson, John P. Eldridge, the Wharf Company, Jesse Small, Russell Sturgis, Marcus Higgins, Seabury Eldridge and many more. An intersting look at the work of a carpenter and builder living on Cape Cod in the middle of the Nineteenth Century. From the Collection of Dave Englund, Seattle, Washington. | |

The ORIGINAL SADDLE MAKER'S LEDGER compiled by McKenzie Bean of Rockingham County, New Hampshire between the years 1805 and 1826 , with most entries for the years 1805 to 1807. Many of the entries refer to saddles or harness repair. There are others as well. The script is a little hard to read at times as it is ornate. Many local names, including Capt. David Edgerly, Joseph Jackson, Francis Bean, Joseph S. Parsons, Dudley Gilman, Eliphalet Morrel and many more. The ledger is leather bound and intact. Near the back are pages with a burn or stain at the top but all entries are legible. There are a total of 354 pages. The ledger measures 13" tall by 7 3/4" wide and 1 1/4" thick. An interesting look at the life of a leather worker in rural New Hampshire in the first quarter of the Nineteenth Century. From the Collection of Dave Englund, Seattle, Washington. | |

An EXPORT MODEL COMBINATION PLANE, No. 45 E, by STANLEY in nearly new condition in a hinged, finger-jointed wooden box to which the original paper labels are affixed. For some reason that has yet to be documented, examples of the Stanley No. 45 combination plane exported to the British Isles are imprinted with the number designation "45 E". They are functionally equivalent to their American counterpart in every way. That they were in some way modified so as to accommodate those accustomed to driving on the left side of the road is one possible reason, but it is so ridiculous that we will not raise it here. A rare and nearly perfectly preserved example of the September 17, 1872 PATENT CARPENTER'S PLOW PLANE of Charles G. Miller of New Britain, Connecticut. This cast iron plane with "copper wash" finish is generally regarded as the showiest of all Nineteenth Century patented planes. Its classic Victorian design in combination with the application of technology captures within this object, the Zeitgeist of post-Civil War Nineteenth Century America. These planes were offered by the Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Company for a very short period. This example is is absent any damage or evidence of wear and is in essentially unused condition, retaining nearly all of its original "copper wash" finish. A classic Nineteenth Century American patented plane of graphic form in top collector quality condition and the finest example of this plane that we have been privileged to offer for sale.
