The island of Nantucket was a sanctuary for Europeans and Americans seeking isolation during the nineteenth century. The island developed it’s own unique style of architecture, art, and culture. Nantucket in the Nineteenth Century includes 180 early photographs and illustrations depicting the look of Nantucket in the 1800’s. Three different sections include Old Nantucket, Views from Two Towers, and Street Scenes. Also included are stories of the inhabitants of Nantucket and the history of tourism on the island. This book preserves the memories of Nantucket and would be a great addition to anyone’s library.
