A rare BRASS STRAPPED ROSEWOOD LEVEL, No. 12, that is not marked but was made by STANLEY. These levels were reportedly produced by Stanley after their acquisition of the works of Hall & Knapp. The brass strapping and vial cover plates are affixed with a total of fifty-six fixing screws. Only a handful of examples of this early level are known to exist. The levels were reportedly designed for use by machinists and are documented in Don Rosebrook's "American Levels and their Makers" on page 144. A rare Stanley level.
