An example of SHELLEY'S PATENT COMBINATION TRY SQUARE AND BEVEL, No. 24, by STANLEY. This extra clean example in the least common seven-inch size is marked with the date of the April 5, 1864 U.S. Patent of George A. Shelley of Madison, Connecticut as well as the Stanley imprint. The joint is secured by a patenetd cam lever. George A. Shelley, born in 1827, succeeded his father in the marble and gravestone business. The design of this combination tool may have been derived from his profession.
