The ORIGINAL BLACKSMITH AND TOOL MAKER'S LEDGER as compiled by by Abijah Barker of Clinton, Maine between the years 1876 and 1880. Clinton is located about halfway between Augusta and Bangor, Maine. This handwritten ledger of approximately 90 manuscript pages is filled on both pages. Barker was listed as a "tool maker" in the Maine Business Directory for 1867. This is an early Maine ledger for blacksmith and toolmaker Abijah Barker. On page one, among the entries for shoeing horses, we find: cutting two hold backs; mending two leaves of cliptie spring, setting up spring the same, making gripe, making 4 rack irons, mending 2 springs, lengthening linspins (lynchpins?) , selling old iron, etc. Later in the ledger, we find that he makes bolts, repairs a mower, upsetting 2 section eyes, works on driving rod, springs for mowers, lines two wheels, makes steel shores, sharpens drills, tines two wheels, repairs wedges, sew steel bar, works on a whiffle tree, takes a mold board and point.
