STERN, WILLIAM H./WOLCOTTVILLE, N THE TOOL CHEST OF WILLIAM H. STERN 5 #20 EVERLAST |CHS 5 TRAUT PATENT |CHS
THE TOOL CHEST OF WILLIAM H. STERN by William H. Stern, Wolcottville, New York. This chest, which will be sold followed by a series of items contained in the chest so as to allow the chest to be kept intact with all original tools if a buyer is so inclined, was acquired many years ago in Wolcottville, apparently untouched since the 1940's. We have been unable to locate Mr. William H. Stern, but strongly suspect, based on the age of the planes and their lack of use, that he was one of many who joined the war effort in the Second World War and never returned. The chest will be sold together with the contents of the upper tray, which includes five pristine No. 20 "Everlasting" chisels; five sizes of Cook's patent chisels, patented September 7, 1926; a full set of Irwin auger bits; a Witherby butt chisel; and a "takedown" square by the Southington Hardware Company. All are in essentially unused condition.

Straight-grained four hundred year old pine trees being rather scarce in Jolly Old England, this plane was almost certainly produced for export to the United States.
