Whale Ships & Whaling

Item #: BK217

This pictorial history shows us that the mystery, excitement and romance of whaling have fired the human imagination since ancient times. Although many books have been written about whales and whaling, this one is unique. Few have presented a pictorial view of whaling ships as the present volume. Over 200 vintage illustrations, including woodcuts dating from 1555, 18th-century engravings, 19th-century lithographs, and photo-graphs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, depict a fleet of barks, brigs, cutters, and other whaling vessels, from the inside as well as out. Whaling implements, guns, and other tools are also revealed. These prints, collected from private sources and meticulously reproduced, are now to be enjoyed by interested in this intriguing chapter of maritime history.
