Ohio Toolmakers and Their Tools, by Jack Devitt. 388 Pages. Softbound. More than twenty years in the making, Jack Devitt's groundbreaking study of Ohio Toolmakers is unique among tool publications in its approach, its scope and its content. Organized alphabetically by village and town, this work lists in alphabetical order under each town or city name all of the tool makers who worked there as well as the tools they produced, their working dates and sources for additional information. To make the book easy to use and fun to peruse, the author has kept the city and villages listings in the left hand facing pages of the book and filled the opposite pages with illustrations of tools produced in those towns. A total of 2500 illustrations, including several pages in color, make this book a very interesting way to spend a rainy evening. A secondary index in the back lists every documented maker and allows the user of the book to quickly find the entries for that maker. While not for everyone, "Ohio Toolmakers and Their Tools" belongs in the library of every serious tool collector. Hats off to Jack Devitt for this great new book. Now we only need 49 more like this one. UNAVAILABLE (BK-0459) |
