1. A BODY FOR LOW ANGLE MITRE PLANE, No. 53, by Alex. Mathieson and Sons, Glasgow, Scotland. It is marked on the brass bridge with the early trademark of this redoubtable Scottish maker. It needs a proper cutting iron to "put it right" as they say in the Old Country. 60 - 120
2. A LOT OF ASSORTED CLEAN CHISELS, all by T.H. Witherby, Winsted, Connecticut. Included are paring and firmer types. Also included is a Witherby chisel box for a set of chisels that retains most of its original label. 60 - 120
3. FIVE SPECIAL PURPOSE AUGER BITS all by Garrick & Craig, Glasgow, Scotland. Included are a saw screw bit, a variety of countersink bits. One has had its "tang" modified, but all are otherwise perfect and in nearly new condition. A nice set of bits from an obscure Scottish maker. 20 - 40
4. A "TOOLMAKER'S WHIMSY" CAMEL PATTERN ROUTER PLANE having a carved bone head in the form of a camel's head affixed to the top of the wedge. We vigorously defend the Constitutional Right of any toolmaker to create a tool of this sort, notwithstanding the fact that many among us have been spat upon by recalcitrant dromedaries and camels and may harbor misgivings as a consequence of our lack of sophistication. 60 - 120
5. A SET OF STENCIL CUTOUT STAMPS, all by the S.M. Spencer Stencil Works, Boston, Massachusetts. A hammer is included with the set. The box retains its full, original paper label. 30 - 60
6. A ROSEWOOD HANDLE TOOL HANDLE, complete with all original tools, by the Springfield Level and Tool Company, Springfield, Massachusetts. This uncommon maker marked tool is in nearly new condition. 30 - 60
7. THREE CARPENTERS' NAME STAMPS including W. Potter, J. Adams, and F.G.P. & F. Co., whoever they might have been. 20 - 40

17. An unused CLASSIC "MONKEY" WRENCH by the Coes Wrench Company, Worcester, Massachusetts. This wood handle wrench is absolutely perfect and in essentially new condition. 20 - 40
18. An unused EIGHT-INCH BLADE PATENT "T" BEVEL by STANLEY, patented September 4, 1877. This example of Traut's Patent Improved bevel was the first version to have the recessed cam-lock fixing screw. This example is in brand new condition. 30 - 60
19. THREE UNCOMMON CAMERA LEVELS, all by Stanley Tools. Included are a double vial and two single vial types. All are in unused condition. 35 - 75
20. A MACHINIST'S BENCH LEVEL, No. 39 1/2, by STANLEY. The top of this perfectly preserved level is marked with the ca. 1920's "Sweetheart" trademark. Full 99% of the original nickel plating remains. 25 - 50
21. A PAIR OF LEFT AND RIGHT HAND QUARTER ROUND MOLDING PLANES. Both are marked "C.R" and have wide flat chamfers. These tools came from a large shop full of wooden planes found in Northern Maine this summer. 40 - 80

44. THREE PAIRS OF HOLLOW AND ROUND MOLDING PLANES, all by J. Denison. Included are 5/8", 7/8" and 1 1/4" sizes. All are marked with the owner brand "A. Halsey" on the toe in a manner that leaves no doubt as to their possessor. 50 - 100
45. A SIX-INCH ROSEWOOD BEVEL by the Standard Rule Company, Unionville, Connecticut. This early bevel is marked with the distinctive "Arch" trademark of this company. It is also marked "Milligan 229 Federal Street, Boston" on the reverse. It is in nearly new condition. 30 - 60
46. An early MAHOGANY HANDLE SCREWDRIVER by P.I. Cook dated "1872". It is very nicely patinated. 60 - 120
47. A "BELL SYSTEM" SAW, No. 70, by the Forsberg Manufacturing Company, Bridgeport, Connecticut. The back is marked with the designation "The Whale". Fully 98% of the original nickel plating remains on this saw. These saws as well as braces, screwdrivers and all manner of pocket-size tools were reportedly apportioned to current and former field employees of the Bell System for use in their home workshops by the Federal Court in the Anti-Trust proceedings against the Bell System. We believe this story to be apocryphal, but recount it for our readers to take as they choose. 20 - 40
48. A COLLECTION OF PRECISION TYPE PENCILS including examples by Faber, Nestler, Pilot, Autopoint, Pentel, etc. Buying all of these at retail value would cause "sticker shock" even to high-end tool collectors. A bargain, whatever they bring. 25 - 50
49. A SMALL SIZE YARD MEASURE RULE by R.B. Haselton, Contoocook, New Hampshire. This eagle imprint rule is in clean and sound condition. 50 - 100
50. THREE EXTRA CLEAN WOODWORKING PLANES, all by STANLEY. Included are a later No. 3, a No. 7 fitted with a Ron Hock cutting iron and a No. 81 that has an unmarked cutting iron. 80 - 160
51. An early ROSEWOOD HANDLE AWL by C.S. Osborne & Company, Newark, New Jersey. The uncommon awl includes the original wrench. Offered with it is a most unusual handled device that has a ball fitting protruding from the chuck 30 - 60
52. A DIRECT READING CALIPER by Arthur W. Corning, New York, New York with advertising for "Acorn Oils & Greases". We suspect that the "ACO" in "Acorn" may have been inspired by Mr. Corning's name. Our inclination to imitate the marketing savvy of this turn of the century oil merchant is compromised by the lack of words beginning with the letters "MDO". Please contact us if you know of any. 20 - 40
53. A PAIR OF SCREW ARM PLANK MOLDING PLANES by E.W. Carpenter, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Both are clean and sound, having adjustable type tongue cutting irons. 80 - 160
54. TWO SETS OF PLOW PLANE CUTTING IRONS including eight A. Mathieson irons and eight A. Hildick irons. 50 - 100
55. A PRECISION PROPORTION DIVIDER by Bruning, Germany. It has a German silver body and is in new condition in its original box. 40 - 80
56. A BENCH MOUNT HAND VISE, No. 1, by G.W. Daniels, Waltham, Massachusetts. This extra early vise is the first we have seen by this maker, who was likely involved in the watch and clock industry for which Waltham was famous. 40 - 80
57. A LOW ANGLE ROSEWOOD INFILL RABBET PLANE by Stewart Spiers, Ayr, Scotland. It has an extra tight throat and retains approximately 1/4" of its original cutting iron. 60 - 120
58. THREE OUT-OF-PRINT TOOL REFERENCE BOOKS including Phil Stanley's timeless "Boxwood and Ivory"; Al Sellens' "Woodworking Planes" and a copy of the reprint of "Smith's Key To Sheffield". 50 - 100
59. A LOT OF CLEAN AND USABLE MOLDING PLANES including a 1" handled tongue & groove pair; a coping plane; J. Kellogg handled rabbet; and four clean beads. 60 - 120
60. Three examples of the C.B. ROSE PATENT BIT BRACE as produced by the Millers Falls Company, Millers Falls, Massachusetts, patented April 16, 1867. These distinctively early metallic braces all have brass fittings at the chuck. Buy these now as Christmas gifts for your friends and then keep them for yourself. 30 - 60
61. An EARLY MAHOGANY PLUMB AND LEVEL by Huddleston. It is marked on the end grain with the maker imprint and is in excellent collector quality condition. 50 - 100
62. An unusual TRAIN WINDOW OPENER for stuck windows. This hinge lever action device was likely used by railroad employees to apply leverage to difficult windows and take matters from bad to worse by filling the passenger's lap with broken glass. 25 - 50
63. A PAGE AND HADLEY PATENT CALIPER by J. Stevens and Company, Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. This loop-joint device was patented on February 8, 1870. It has a helical spring joint. From the Hunter and Jean Pilkinton Collection. 50 - 100
64. A YELLOW BIRCH BEAD MOLDING PLANE by Jo. Fuller, Providence, Rhode Island. It is marked 6/8" on the sole and is in superb overall condition. 50 - 100
65. A EIGHT-INCH BLADE DOVETAIL SAW by Wheeler, Madden and Clemson, Middletown, New York. This open handle saw is sharp, straight and ready to use. 35 - 75

68. FOUR CLEAN STRATTON LEVELS all by Stratton Brothers, Greenfield, Massachusetts. Included are a No. 1; a No. 2; and a No. 10 26" rosewood level. The other is not marked with a number designation. 60 - 120
69. THREE IVORY SCALE RULES including examples marked Lechertier, Barre Co. and Jason Gargory. The other is not marked with a maker name. 80 - 160
70. A LIVE OAK SPAR MOLDING PLANE having a Moulson Brothers iron by G.G. Merrick, Thomaston, Maine . This plane is marked with Merrick's "B" imprint, which rates four stars for rarity in American Wooden Planes, Fourth Edition. 80 - 160
71. A LOT OF UNCOMMON PLANE PARTS, all by STANLEY. Included are a No. 2 handle; a No. 97 blade; a "Type 2" lever cap; a No. 1 cutting iron and an E.C. Atkins saw charm. 76. An interesting BRASS PLUMB BOB having a glass spirit level set in the body of the bob. It has been professionally cleaned and polished and is ready to display. This was invented by a man who later earned his fortune by inventing egg carriers that strapped to the bottom of shoes. 50 - 100
77. A BOXED BILECTION MOLDING PLANE by M. & A. Copeland. This extra clean complex molder is marked on the heel with the designation "5/8". It is in top collector quality condition. 75 - 150
78. A MASSIVE TWO-MAN BUCK SAW having an ash and pine frame and a bow saw type tensioning mechanism. 30 - 60

88. FOUR CONNECTICUT MAKER BEVELS including a Standard Rule example in the 4" size and bevels by Nelson & Hubbard, Star Tool and a Southington Patent cam-lock type. 60 - 120
89. An early ENGLISH TABLE JOINT PLANE by Phillipson. Phillipson, who apprenticed to Robert Wooding, worked between 1740 and 1760 only. This example is in excellent condition and clearly marked. 80 - 160
90. TWO UNCOMMON WOODWORKING PLANES, both by STANLEY. Included are a No. 13 circular plane and a No. 140 having a skew blade and removable side. 60 - 120
91. An EARLY PENNSYLVANIA MAKER DRAW KNIFE bearing the mark of H. Hershey, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We suspect that this may have been some ancestor of the chocolate making family. If it is purchased for inclusion at the museum at the Hershey theme park, we hereby commit ourselves to coat it with chocolate before shipping, unless specifically requested not to do so by the purchaser. 35 - 75
92. FIVE EXOTIC WOOD HAND TOOLS including a mahogany skew rabbet, a mahogany sash cope, an applewood stair saw, a mahogany marking gauge and a scraper. 80 - 160
93. A "CROWN" BRAND CHRISTMAS TREE STAND by the North Brothers Manufacturing Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fully 99% of the original paint remains on this uncommon small size stand. 35 - 75
94. A LOT OF FOUR ASSORTED MOLDING PLANES, all by E.W. Carpenter, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Included are a 7/8" bead, a rabbet, a complex molder having a replaced wedge and a complex molder having a user modified throat. 60 - 120
95. A twenty-five inch MACHINISTS PRECISION TRY SQUARE, No. 541, by the Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Company, Providence, Rhode Island. This very little used square would have cost a King's Ransom when new. As a former tool dealer, I knew that I would be asked if I "...knew what that would cost new" by individuals who had no idea. Rather than feign ignorance to be then told, definitively, "a lot", I would respond with an exact figure down to the penny, including sales tax, just to deter future dealer abuse by that wretched soul. 50 - 100
